There was no significant difference in effectiveness of nicardipine within subgroups of Fisher grade and infusion dosage. It was found that higher dose of nicardipine injection with higher SBP is more effective in controlling blood pressure. Nicardipine also seems to be safe except for very few unsevere complications.

Transition from IV Nicardipine to an Oral Antihypertensive Agent: If oral nicardipine is to be used after IV nicardipine, administer the first dose 1 hour prior to discontinuation of the IV infusion. If an oral antihypertensive agent other than nicardipine is to be used after IV nicardipine, initiate therapy upon discontinuation of IV nicardipine.
Patients were randomized into 1 of 4 nicardipine dose groups: Group 1, nicardipine 0.25 mg; Group 2, nicardipine 0.50 mg; Group 3, nicardipine 1.00 mg; and Group 4, nicardipine 2.00 mg until data were obtained for 10 patients in each dose group. Nicardipine was administered as an IV bolus by rapid injection (over 5 s) directly into the right

The total daily dose of immediate release nicardipine (CARDENE) may not be a useful guide to judging the effective dose of CARDENE SR. Patients currently receiving immediate release nicardipine may be titrated with CARDENE SR starting at their current total daily dose of immediate release nicardipine and then reexamined to assess the adequacy
