we have seen too many stories here where the McGuffin was the woman was given ralphies or X to start the affair. so i hate to advocate drugs for a story line, but an addiction to drugs would seem to be the possible reason for the loss of mother love for the little kid. Meth, crack, crank, coke or even X. and there have not been a lot of drug addict stories here. still, an addiction would show other effects over 6 months.
